Unix milliseconds converter

Convert Unix epoch milliseconds to a human date, and any date to epoch milliseconds. Free timestamp millisecond converter for developers.

What Unix milliseconds are

A Unix timestamp in milliseconds is the number of milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC, which is called the Unix epoch. It is what JavaScript’s Date.now() and many databases, APIs and logs return. Today’s values have 13 digits. A timestamp in seconds, which has 10 digits, is the same number divided by 1,000.

How this converter works

Type milliseconds to see the date and time, or pick a date and time to see the milliseconds. The date and time are shown in your device’s time zone, while the timestamp itself is always in UTC. The tool does not count leap seconds, which Unix time ignores.

Questions

What is a Unix timestamp in milliseconds?

The number of milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC.

How do I convert seconds to milliseconds?

Multiply by 1,000. To go the other way, divide by 1,000.

Why does my date show January 1970?

The number is probably in seconds, not milliseconds. Multiply it by 1,000 first, or use the Unix timestamp converter.

Is the result in UTC or my time zone?

The timestamp is UTC. The date and time shown are in your device’s time zone.
