How Mother’s Day is worked out
In the United States, Canada, Australia and many other countries, Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May. That puts it between May 8 and May 14. To find it, take the first Sunday of May and add seven days, which is exactly what the counter above does. It counts to 00:00 on that Sunday in your local time zone and moves on to next year once the day begins.
This page counts to the May date. Other countries use different days: the UK and Ireland keep Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter, and Norway celebrates on the second Sunday of February.

- Three to four weeks out: book a restaurant, brunch or a trip. Popular places fill up.
- Two weeks out: order flowers, jewelry or anything custom, and allow for delivery time.
- One week out: buy a card and plan a home-cooked meal if that is the idea.
- The day before: confirm reservations, wrap gifts and write the card.
