Retirement countdown calculator

Calculate how many years, months, weeks, and days remain until retirement based on your current age and target retirement age.

How this retirement countdown works

Enter your current age and the age you plan to retire. The calculator subtracts one from the other and shows the years left, the same span in months (years × 12) and in weeks (years × 52.18). It is a simple difference between two ages, so it does not use your birth date. If you want a countdown to an exact date, use the countdown to any date tool with the day you will stop work.

You can enter a decimal age, for example 42.5 for 42 and a half, to get a more precise answer.

What the number is and is not

The result is time, not money. It does not estimate savings, pensions or how long you will live. Official retirement ages and pension rules differ by country and change over time, so check your own government or employer for the age that applies to you.

Questions

How many years until I retire?

Retirement age minus current age. For example, 40 and 65 gives 25 years.

Can I enter a decimal age?

Yes. 42.5 is treated as 42 and a half years old.

Does the calculator use my birth date?

No. It only subtracts your current age from your retirement age. For an exact date, use the countdown to any date tool.

Does it include savings or pension advice?

No. It only counts time. Retirement ages and pension rules depend on your country and employer.
