How to add a Left widget on your Mac desktop
macOS Sonoma lets widgets sit directly on your desktop, and it can show widgets from apps on your iPhone. That lets you put Left's widgets on your Mac. Here's how to do it.
Requirements
- macOS Sonoma (14) or later on your Mac
- An iPhone with Left installed, signed in with the same Apple Account as your Mac and near it or on the same Wi-Fi network, with Use iPhone widgets turned on (System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Widgets)
Step 1 - Set up Left on your iPhone
The widgets on your Mac are shown from your iPhone, so install Left on your iPhone from the App Store first.
Step 2 - Right-click the desktop to add a widget
- Click an empty area of your Mac desktop to make sure no app is in focus.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the desktop.
- Select Edit Widgets… from the context menu.
Step 3 - Find and add Left
- In the widget gallery, find your iPhone's widgets and choose Left, or search for "Left".
- Click the + button on a Left widget to add it to the desktop, or drag it to a specific position.
- Click Done.
Step 4 - Configure the widget
- Right-click the Left widget on your desktop.
- Select Edit Widget.
- For an Ahead widget, tap Select date and choose the date you want to show.
- Press Escape or click elsewhere to save.
Moving and resizing desktop widgets
- Click and drag a desktop widget to reposition it anywhere on the desktop.
- Remove and re-add the widget to change its size. The gallery shows the sizes each Left widget offers.
- Widgets are layered behind app windows and become visible when you show the desktop.
Opening Left from a widget
These widgets come from Left on your iPhone, so clicking one on your Mac may ask you to continue on your iPhone.
