Hours since calculator
Calculate how many hours and minutes have passed since any date and time. Free hours-since calculator for shifts, fasting, projects, and milestones.
How the hours since calculator works
Enter a date and time in the past. The tool subtracts it from the current time and shows the whole hours that have passed, plus the same span in total minutes. It refreshes every minute and uses your device’s clock and time zone. If you enter a time in the future, it shows 0 hours.
Because it counts real elapsed time, a span that crosses a daylight saving change can be an hour longer or shorter than the clock times suggest.
Hours in common spans
| Span | Hours |
|---|---|
| 1 day | 24 |
| 1 week | 168 |
| 30 days | 720 |
| 1,000 hours | About 41.7 days |
| A 365-day year | 8,760 |
What people count in hours
- Time since waking or starting work. A quick check on a long day.
- Time since a launch, release or incident. Teams track this in hours.
- Time since a meal, for fasting. The fasting countdown counts the other way, toward the end of a fast.
For days rather than hours, use the days since a date tool. For the hours between two dates, use hours between two dates.
Keep a count running
In Left, a Streak counts up automatically from the start date you pick, and its widget can show the time in hours, days, weeks, months or years. See the days since widget page. The free plan includes 2 streaks.

Every minute, and whenever you change the date or time.
What if the time is in the future?
